Nikki O'Neill wrote Stories that I only tell my friends 2023-2024, three years after she moved from Los Angeles to Chicago. Some of the songs revolve around the exclusion, uprooting and their personal experiences with migration, while others keep the fights to remain creative and to maintain a quiet feeling of amazement in a fast -paced, information -driven society. There are also songs that are pure love of love.

The Americana sound inspired by souls, who penetrates the album, is a common creation of O'Neill and the members of their band: Rich Lackowski (Drums, percussion, harmony vocals), Chris Corsale (most main guitars, harmony vocals) and Teddy Myers (Organ, piano, Wurlitzer and Rhodes) together with John Abbey And Chris Stanford on the bass. O'Neill played rhythm guitar, all acoustic guitars.

From “newcomer blues,” says O'Neill:

“This acoustic folk blues song ends the album and is based on my own experience with migration and constant movement as a child. I also thought of children that I see outside of shops here in Chicago who fled on foot from central and South American countries and how some people do not see them as human, but as a socio -political state. The recording you hear is the first and only seam of the song. “

“The video was rotated, staged and edited by Don TinsleyWho I had never worked with. It's a very personal song, but we focused on working to make this story visual, and I think he did a nice job. “
