A father and a son who were stranded in almost icy temperatures on a mountain side in south -utah were saved in a daring rescue that was recorded on video last week.

The father and his 12-year-old son hiked in Snow Canyon State Park, about 300 miles south of Salt Lake City, on a steep cliff at St. The couple was stranded Without a working phone.

In a change of fate, a hiker who was stranded in the same area weeks earlier had a backpack that was filled with food, water and emergency ceilings that the father and the son were able to wait for the rescue, said the Ministry for Security.

The man's wife had made the authorities aware that the two were missing, which led to a search and rescue mission of the Washington County sheriff office.

The helicopter found the couple in the early morning, “stranded on a flat rocky lead,” said the Ministry of Public Security.

The video shows how the helicopter flies over the couple who waved the crew and finally lifts it to safety.

The father, 33-year-old Julian Hernandez, said NBC News, he was grateful that they were saved and will prepare for the worst in future hikes.

The 15 -year -old Levi Dittman, who was stranded in the same place as the couple and left the backpack just weeks earlier, said NBC News, he was grateful that he could help them.

“The backpack was intended to help someone,” he said.

It is not clear where Hernandez and son were taken after their rescue or what their current state is.
