A video with an alligator that continues the traffic to cross the street with a turtle in the mouth has become viral. The video was released on Facebook at the beginning of this month by Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. The Wildlife Refuge is located in Boynton Beach, Florida, about 25 minutes inland from Palm Beach.

“What a friendly alligator! He only helped the Turtle to cross the street,” commented a Facebook user the video.

The wildlife refuge, which is managed by the US fish and wildlife service, is one of the largest urban wild animals in the country and extends over more than 145,000 acres.

Do alligators eat turtles?

Yes. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, alligators are “opportunistic feeders”, which means that alligators eat a variety of food sources and adapt to the place where they live. Adult alligators eat fish, snakes, turtles, small mammals and birds, while young alligators mainly eat insects, amphibians, small fish and other invertebrates, the commission says.
