Washington County examines allegations of interdependence in the PA Youth Football League

One of the largest youth football leagues in Pennsylvania, the Western Pennsylvania Youth Football League, is currently being examined by the Washington District

The league that supports thousands of young football players and cheerleaders is working on pronouncing concerns about the coming season.

“This is much more than just one person. This is about an entire community of western Pennsylvania that will be affected,” said Jared Lowe, the newly appointed interim manager of the WPYFL.

The first reports of possible embezzlement were taken over by the Greene County regional police, but have since been handed over to the Washington district. District Prosecutor Jason Walsh confirmed to Pittsburghs Action News 4 on Friday that his office was investigating the allegations.

At this point in the examination, nobody will be charged.

The investigation was triggered after a former board member called an emergency assembly on Wednesday evening to discuss financial discrepancies. During the meeting, Bill Spencer's resignation, the director of WPYFL, was submitted by letter in the past 12 years.

“Please take this letter as a resignation as a league Director of the Western Pennsylvania Youth Football League in effect immediately,” said Spencer in the letter.

The letter states: “The WPYFL has made its commitment the best youth football league in Pennsylvania.”

Spencer was not present at the session. When Spencer was reached by Pittsburghs Action News 4 on Thursday, he confirmed his resignation, but rejected another comment.

Despite the allegations and financial uncertainties, Lowe assured the 44 organizations of the league that the coming season will be as planned. In a meeting with the bank and the league police, he could confirm that sufficient means remain.

“At this point it looks like everything would be fine. We can go forward. However, what we want to do with a treasurer is to appoint a treasurer with several treasurer in every single organization of the league in order to have the full transparency of the bank account, ”said Lowe.

In order to prevent future problems, Lowe suggested to implement financial security, including the appointment of several treasurer in all league organizations for transparency.

“White that – one: transparency will always have the top priority from here. Two: that this will never happen again, and we will ensure and ensure. And also that there will be a person who creates records from each individual organization about what is going on from this point, ”said Lowe.

Bank documents and bank statements were handed over to the authorities while the examination continued. Lowe plans to agree a meeting with league representatives and organizational chairs as well as treasurer to ensure a greater financial supervision.

According to the WPYFL website, it is the largest youth football league in Pennsylvania with 44 organizations. Several organizations went on social media on Thursday to make parents aware of the concerns.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, West Allegheny Youth Football & Cheerer said: “The director of the WPYFL, who has been the league since the league was founded, officially resigned last night, in response to significant accusations against him. These accusations can affect the future of WPYFL or not, but do not affect the future of West Allegheny Youth Football and Jubilation (WayFC). Our program is self -sufficient with a separate insurance policy, release exams, bank account and accounting. ”

Brownsville Midget Football, a member organization of the WPYFL, has also published concerns about the league. In a contribution to your Facebook page, allegedly missing funds were mentioned on the WPFYL Bank account.

“As many of them belong or hearing, there is an important problem in the WPYFL, Brownsville Midget Football together with 43 other schools involved in the organization, it was announced that some of the funds are frozen or missing on the WPYFL bank account. This situation causes all 44 schools and with questions, ”explained Brownsville Midget Football.
