Weather Impact Alert: Extreme fire risk into the weekend

Very low relative air humidity levels and strong winds create increased fire weather state. All fires that begin were able to spread quickly and easily.

We will see an increased risk of fire again this weekend. Due to the combination of very dry air, airy winds and drought conditions/plenty of dry fuels, we have exhibited a weather warning warning for Saturday and Sunday. During this time, all outdoor activities or sparking productions are discouraged to a large extent.

Weather Impact Alert: Extreme fire risk into the weekend

The risk of fire will be increased on Friday to start the weekend, but it rises even more for Saturday and remains until Sunday. Most of our region will meet at least a very high risk of fire, whereby the country in land is an extreme risk.

While the highest risk of fire may not comprise the islands, it is important to note that with increased crowds on the beaches of the areas, additional caution should be advised due to the spring break – especially near the sand dunes and grasses.

A Fire weather watch was exhibited for Friday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. This includes all of our counties, but excludes the islands. We'll probably see another for Sunday.

A dry line in front of a cold front moves towards the coast on Friday. This dry air not only leaves the relative humidity and increases the fire's danger, but also enables the afternoon temperatures to rise over the area in the upper 90s and 100s. The cold front should move to Saturday morning overnight and bring slightly “cooler” temperatures and much dry air, which is why the fire risk on Saturday is higher.

The risk of fire is expected to decrease early next week if the relative humidity increases, but the risk of fire could rise again with another cold front, the next week in the middle of the week, dry air and airy winds bend into the coast.
