What does contain and control the Carolina Forest Fire

While we continue to monitor the containment of the Covington Drive Waldbrand, it is important to know that the fire does not go 100 percent even when the fire is 100 percent containment.

Fires reach complete containment before they are fully checked.

The percentages of containment describe the amount of fire circumference that was treated to prevent the fire from spreading further.

“An easy way to imagine is to think about a spill,” said Holly Welch of the South Carolina Forestry Commission. “If you pour water, you can put your hand down to prevent you from spreading over the table. So if we say that a fire is 100 percent contained, this means that we have firelines around the entire fire. This does not necessarily mean that there are no hot spots. There can still be green pockets with unbroken fuel during this break.”

What said, as soon as a fire is 100 percent contained, it grows or threatens new areas anymore, but it can still take days to months for it to be fully contained or published.
