What is the smell? Painesville Fire explains widespread gas smell

Painesville, Ohio (Woio) – The Fire Department (PMD) Painesville (PFD) published on Monday on social media about a widespread natural gas odor.

According to the post office, the PFD received numerous calls for natural gas smell inside and outside of buildings on Monday morning.

The PFD called Enbridge Gas and Northeast Erdgas in Ohio about the problem.

“Both companies have changed the suppliers at the weekend and that an excessive amount of the smell additive -Mercaptan was the problem,” said the post office.

Natural gas is odorless, but the lazy egg smell comes from Mercaptan. Mercaptan is added to identify leaks for safety.

“This excess amount of Mercaptan causes some persistent smells when devices begin,” says the press release.

Enbridge gas and north -east earth gas will react to calls about these smells.

If you smell something, call the PCFD or 911 and evacuate the building.
