What to know about this year's changes – NBC Boston

At the South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade last year, things got out of control, so that organizers and civil servants want to ensure that everyone is secure this year.

They make changes after almost a dozen people were arrested last year.

The Boston police commissioner, Michael Cox, sends a clear news to everyone who is present.

“This is a family -friendly event. This is not a drinking -resistant,” he said this week. “So we will generally enforce all alcohol laws for illegal substances and drinking.”

The authorities say that this weekend at the South Boston St. Patrick's Day there will be no tolerance for the out of control.

The parade was pushed up from a start time at 1:00 p.m. to 11:30 a.m., and all package shops in Southie will be closed until 4 p.m., and bars will not admit anyone after 6:30 p.m., the alcohol service ends at 7 a.m. and people are asked to walk at 7:30 a.m.

These new rules are determined after 11 people have been arrested during the parade of last year. There was also violence and vandalism.

The police in Boston said they plan to have every available officer this year.

The police commissioner also asks the parents to urge everyone who is minor to the St. Patrick's Day parade.
