Woman who has lost at home at the Eaton Fire is reunited with her cat – NBC Los Angeles

More than a month after the Eaton fire in Altadena, a cat that was lost during the evacuation was reunited with its owner.

Thanks to the work, the owners were reunited with their beloved pet thanks to the work of two local cat rescuers and a call of a neighbor.

The two local trappers say that after the Eaton fire they went into action immediately to use their skills well and save all the cats they could.

And this work continues if you continue to homes day and night and plan more reunification.

“I found her when she was four weeks old,” said Ria Cousineau, owner of Bergie The Cat.

On the night of the Eaton Fire last month, Bergie tested her own resilience.

“She sneaked and I probably looked around for 15 minutes,” said Cousineau. “I don't know where she was hiding and it was getting closer. And so I just had to go. And so I left the dog door open and hoped that at least she would find a way out of the house. “

Cousineaus house directly under the now barren hanging was destroyed.

She says a few days later there was a message from a similar looking cat in the Humane Society and she had hope.

“Bergie has this little tiny nick in her ear and that's a kind of her that I would use. But the cat in human society, her ears were burned. But we continued to visit them, ”said Cousineau.

She had hoped that it was her cat, but it wasn't.

Weeks passed and then she received a text from her neighbor with a post of a missing cat that had been found.

“I have two cats and they have broken off and so without asking, but it doesn't matter to me, the emails. I get e -mails, missing cat every few days, and they give me the cross -section where they believe that it has disappeared, ”said Steve Schklair, who reunited mountainie with their owner.

“And then this random stray -e email appears, which says that we found this cat and she looked like her, so I sent her the picture and she was so excited and it is her cat and says: Yes , It even has a nick and it is here. Said Schlair.

“We already have the catch skills and so it was obvious to us that this is something we could do,” said Amy Dresser, one of the local trappers.

Amy Dresser and Lexi van der Hoeven, who voluntarily report to the “Sante d'Or” group, did the work to find missing cats after the fire of their personal mission and to receive donations from cat food to cameras.

“A good friend of us, Jen Night with Del Gato Rescue, connected us with another rescue that is in the palisades, and they basically have the 13 cameras overnight,” said van der Hoeven.

The cameras caught Mountain in the middle of the night several times for food while Amy and Lexi followed.

“In the first night I just kept her and weigh her and she just wanted to be comforted and I was like you had to someone baby,” said chest of drawers.

On the eve of Valentine's Day, Bergie and her owner were reunited 32 days after the fire.

Cousineau said when Bergie came home, she was excited to see her friends, especially Ruby, the dog with whom she grew up.

Now in a rented house in Pasadena with your partner and your pets there is a new normality for everyone

“In the past, she was a very charistic eater and she is no longer. She only eats everything that is given to her and she screams all the time, how I feed myself or touches myself, ”said Cousineau.

“I know it is terrible to lose your home, but I have the feeling that you have come out with all your animals and that is amazing to be part of you that you can complete your family,” said Dresser.

The chest of drawers and van der Hoeven said that they had trapped more than 20 cats and were part of five reunions such as Cousineau and Bergie, with two more waiting to combine with their owners at the moment.
