Yakou Mite: Cardiff boss Omer Riza praises the fasting match winner

The manager of Cardiff City, Omer Riza, praised Yakou Meites's “great resilience” after his match gate at Blackburn Rovers.

Mite came in the second half in Ewood Park as a replacement and achieved a precious 2-1 win with his first touch of the game.

The 29-year-old striker watches the Ramadan, which means that, like other Muslims around the world, he does not use food or drinks to be consumed for daylight.

Ramadan will take place from March 1 to 30 of this year, which means that some games played briefly during the break during this time so that Muslim players can break their fasting.

“He was fasting, so he played the game today without eating, energy was low, but he showed a big character,” said Riza.

“He wasn't so good in the team, so much resistance to achieve this header.”

Meine's goal was only his second in 28 games this season.

It was a difficult campaign for the Ivory Coast International, who announced in January that he had stopped applauding Cardiff's supporters after the games due to “abuse” that he had received from some fans.

“He has certain properties, sometimes it is not what we do as a team,” added Riza.

“But he came today and got this winning goal, so I'm very happy about him.”
