Youngkin is probably expanding to his record number of Vetos

Governor Glenn Youngkin already holds the record for most vetos. And as Michael Pope reports, he is about to increase this total with dozens of new vetos in the next few weeks.

When Mark Warner was a governor in the early 2000s, he took fewer than 20 notes during his four -year term.

“When I was a governor, I had a double republican legislator,” he says. But I found ways to work together. “

Youngkin already holds the record for most vetos of a governor of Virginia.

Warner, a democrat, worked with Republicans who controlled the General Assembly at the time, from combating a budgetary goods to the basis of the stage in order to appoint the best state for the country.

“I will be on the cross -party record that I created as Governor of Virginia,” says Warner. “I think it has brought us good reputation, and obviously other governors are watching a different approach.”

A governor who follows a different approach is the current governor – Glenn Youngkin. He has already had more than 200 vetos, and in the coming weeks, dozens are expected to check hundreds of invoices that are sent to him by Democrats who control the general assembly.

“With regard to the number of vetos, I think that it reflects the large amount of liberal social policy and budgetary policy that is offered by the democratic legislator, and they would expect the Republican governor to say a check,” says former Republican governor Jim Gilmore. “The constitution allows him to check this.”

Democrats who control the legislator have the opportunity to check the governor of what his vetos may overwrite, even though they need a super major vote to do so when they appear again in April.
